Making Friends With Grief
Origin Story

Kironmoy Datta (Kiron) is the founder of Making Friends with Grief and a Certified Grief Educator. He is committed to helping individuals and organizations better understand grief and how to navigate the grief journey.

His journey began through personal experience — dealing with sudden, profound loss and the quiet, unspoken struggles that accompany grief.

What began as a deeply personal experience gradually became a calling: to provide pathways and approaches to better manage their grief.

As he helped others through their own experiences of loss, Kiron saw that while individuals struggled to carry their grief, employers and organizations didn’t even know where to start. Many well-intentioned leaders and colleagues wanted to help but felt uncertain, uncomfortable, or unprepared to balance compassion with the demands of the workplace.

The result was often silence — and isolation for the person grieving.

That realization added a new purpose: to bridge the gap between grief and the workplace. Through Making Friends with Grief, Kiron helps organizations and leaders become more grief-literate — offering the understanding, tools, and language needed to support employees in ways that are humane, effective, and healing for everyone involved.

Drawing on lived experience and professional training, Kiron creates spaces where individuals and teams can approach grief with openness and empathy. His mission is simple yet profound: to help people and organizations recognize that grief is not something avoid or hide, but it is a natural expression of love that one we can learn to understand, befriend and live alongside.
